A Season of Records

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has set new benchmarks, concluding with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) triumphing over Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets in the final match held on Sunday. This season has been marked by an unprecedented number of runs and numerous records.


Throughout IPL 2026, a staggering total of 27,450 runs were scored, making it the highest aggregate in a single season. The tournament also boasted the best runs-per-wicket ratio at 31.26 and the highest run rate per over at 9.88. Additionally, it featured a record number of boundaries, with 2,332 fours and 1,426 sixes, showcasing the batting prowess on display. Individual performances were remarkable, highlighted by 15 centuries, including two by Sanju Samson of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Teams frequently surpassed the 200-run mark, with 65 instances of such totals and 17 successful chases of 200 or more runs.


Final Match Highlights

In the final match, Gujarat Titans batted first, managing to score only 155 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Washington Sundar was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 50 runs off 37 balls, while Nishant Sindhu contributed 20 runs. RCB's bowlers, including Rasikh Dar Salam (3 wickets for 27 runs), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2 for 29), and Josh Hazlewood (2 for 37), consistently took wickets.


RCB's innings began with a solid partnership of 62 runs between Venkatesh Iyer (32 runs off 16 balls) and Virat Kohli. Although GT fought back and reduced RCB to 132 for 5, Kohli's unbeaten 75 runs off 42 balls, featuring nine fours and three sixes, led RCB to victory with two overs remaining.


This victory marks RCB's second IPL title and their fourth overall in Indian franchise cricket, which includes two Women's Premier League (WPL) championships.
