Smooth Conduct of IPL 2025 Final

The IPL 2025 final unfolded seamlessly, a significant achievement given the backdrop of geopolitical strains and unpredictable weather. This success was attributed to meticulous planning, data-driven scientific assessments, and astute decision-making by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

BCCI's Meteorological Insights

During the IPL Governing Council meeting on May 20, BCCI officials took on the role of meteorologists, scrutinizing weather forecasts across the country to finalize the locations for the Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the Final.

Venue Changes Due to Weather Concerns

Initially, the playoffs were set to occur in Hyderabad and Kolkata. However, due to a week-long suspension linked to rising border tensions and shifting weather conditions, a reassessment was necessary.

Final Venue Shift to Ahmedabad

At the GC meeting, the BCCI provided weather forecasts for all IPL host cities. Kolkata's Eden Gardens, originally slated for the final, faced a 65% likelihood of rain, while Ahmedabad had only a 3% chance. Consequently, the council opted to relocate the final to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Addressing Political Speculations

There were rumors suggesting that the venue change to Ahmedabad was politically motivated. However, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia clarified the following day that the decision was purely based on scientific recommendations.

Weather Conditions During the Final

Interestingly, Kolkata experienced heavy rainfall on the evening of June 3, coinciding with the IPL final in Ahmedabad. While Ahmedabad saw a light drizzle earlier that day, the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) proceeded without any interruptions.

Qualifier 2 Weather Delays

The weather did not completely disrupt Qualifier 2. On June 1, rain caused a two-hour delay, although Kolkata enjoyed clear skies that day. Nevertheless, after the delay, the match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and PBKS continued without losing any overs.
