Investigation Intensifies Following Chaos at Messi Event in Salt Lake Stadium
SIT Probes Messi Event Disruption
Authorities from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) are delving into the disturbances that occurred during the Lionel Messi event at Salt Lake Stadium last week. On Friday, they visited the home of Satadru Dutta, the chief organizer of the event, as part of their ongoing inquiry, according to police reports.
In a related development, three additional individuals were apprehended in the city and surrounding areas on Friday, linked to the unrest that unfolded at the stadium, as confirmed by a senior police official.
The SIT, which includes notable figures such as Director (Security) Peeyush Pandey and ADG (Law and Order) Jawed Shamim, scrutinized various documents and items at Dutta's residence located in Rishra, Hooghly district.
What was anticipated to be a grand football event devolved into chaos last week, as Messi's brief appearance, his first at this venue since 2011, left many fans feeling disappointed and frustrated.
Despite traveling long distances and paying significant amounts for tickets, many attendees were unable to see their idol.
Dutta was taken into custody by Bidhannagar Police on Saturday for alleged mismanagement of the event at Kolkata airport, where he had gone to bid farewell to Messi and his team as they headed to Hyderabad.
Additionally, three more individuals were arrested in connection with the stadium's disturbances, bringing the total number of arrests to nine, including six apprehended earlier.
According to another police source, all those arrested have confessed to their roles in the vandalism, attributing their actions to the disappointment of not being able to see Messi clearly.
