Following India's recent series defeat against South Africa on home soil, former all-rounder Madan Lal voiced his worries regarding the team's performance. He emphasized that the longest format of the game requires specialists rather than all-rounders, stating that the team has no one to blame but themselves. This loss comes after a previous whitewash against New Zealand, marking India's second consecutive home series defeat, a significant blow to their reputation in Test cricket.

'A Debacle': Madan Lal's Critique

In an interview, Madan described the situation as a 'debacle,' criticizing the team's poor performance. He remarked, 'When playing at home, we expect better results. The Indian team can only hold themselves accountable. Test cricket requires specialists, not all-rounders. A balanced team should consist of five to six batsmen, one or two all-rounders, and a mix of pace and spin bowlers. I also found it puzzling that the team was altered after performing well in England.'

Dependence on All-Rounders

Throughout the series, India relied heavily on their all-rounders, including Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Washington Sundar. Despite some impressive performances, these contributions were insufficient for a series victory at home. Nitish, in particular, struggled to make an impact, continuing his decline after a century in the Boxing Day Test last year.

South Africa's Dominance in Guwahati

The South African team showcased their strength, beginning with a solid first innings score of 489, bolstered by a maiden Test century from Senuran Muthusamy (109) and a powerful 93 from Marco Jansen. Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler for India, taking 4 wickets for 115 runs.
