Indian Badminton Team Set for Indonesia Open 2026
New Delhi [India], June 1: The Indian badminton doubles team, featuring Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, alongside PV Sindhu, is all set to represent the nation at the Indonesia Open 2026, commencing this Tuesday, as reported by a leading sports website.
After a two-year wait, the Satwik-Chirag pair arrives in Jakarta following their recent victory at the Singapore Open men's doubles, marking their first World Tour win since the Thailand Open two years prior.
In a thrilling final, the Indian duo overcame Indonesia's Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Fikri, bouncing back after losing the first game. They secured the title with scores of 18-21, 21-17, 21-16, making history as the first Indian doubles team to win the Singapore Open.
PV Sindhu, competing in women's singles, displayed promising form in Singapore, defeating Indonesia's world No. 6 Putri Kusuma Wardani and Japan's Riko Gunji before falling to Olympic champion An Se-young in the quarter-finals.
Currently ranked No. 12 globally, Sindhu may face An again in the second round in Jakarta.
India's women's singles roster also includes Unnati Hooda and Malvika Bansod.
In men's singles, Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy will spearhead the team, with Prannoy recently achieving a significant victory over Indonesia's world No. 5 Jonatan Christie.
In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto reached the semi-finals in Singapore but will encounter a challenging first match in Jakarta against Malaysian world champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei. Additionally, the women's doubles team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand is set to return after Treesa's recovery from injury, marking their first World Tour appearance since March.
