Chennai: In a crucial Super 8 match, India showcased a remarkable batting performance, achieving the highest score of the T20 World Cup with a total of 256 runs for 4 wickets against Zimbabwe on Thursday.
Abhishek Sharma, who had faced a challenging start to the tournament with three consecutive ducks, bounced back impressively, scoring a rapid 55 runs off just 30 balls. His partnership with Sanju Samson, who contributed 24 runs, set a solid foundation with an opening stand of 48 runs after Zimbabwe chose to bowl first.
Ishan Kishan added 38 runs, while Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with 33 runs, both playing vital roles in maintaining the momentum. Hardik Pandya then accelerated the innings with a blistering 50 not out off 23 deliveries, significantly boosting the team's total.
Tilak Varma also played a crucial role, remaining unbeaten on 44 runs from just 14 balls, as he and Pandya combined for an explosive partnership of 84 runs off 31 balls.
