India's December Series Against Bangladesh Faces Postponement Amid Political Turmoil
Political Unrest Leads to Series Delay
New Delhi: The anticipated home series for India against Bangladesh, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is scheduled for December, is likely to be postponed due to escalating political issues in Bangladesh.
While the specific dates and venues had yet to be confirmed, uncertainty surrounding the tour had already been evident prior to the recent political events.
On Monday, a tribunal court sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death, which has intensified tensions and complicated diplomatic relations, particularly with India.
According to reports from ESPNcricinfo, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) received a notification from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) indicating that the white-ball series would be rescheduled. Although no explicit reasons were given, it is widely believed that the ongoing political strife influenced this decision.
This series was part of the ICC's Future Tours Programme and was meant to be India's last set of matches before the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL). It also represented the only series between their successful ODI World Cup run and the WPL.
The matches were set to occur in Kolkata and Cuttack, with the ODIs marking a new phase in the Women’s ODI Championship for both nations.
Earlier this year, the Indian men's team had their white-ball tour of Bangladesh, initially planned for August 2025, postponed to September 2026.
The BCCI had stated, "This decision was made after discussions between the two boards, considering the international cricket commitments and scheduling convenience for both teams. The BCB is eager to host India in September 2026 for this highly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures will be announced soon."
