Cabinet Endorses Commonwealth Games Bid
The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially approved the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports' proposal for India to submit a bid to host the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in 2030.
In addition, the Cabinet has authorized the signing of the Host Collaboration Agreement (HCA) and the provision of necessary guarantees from relevant ministries and departments. Should India's bid be successful, financial assistance to the Government of Gujarat has also been sanctioned, reinforcing India's position in the global sports arena.
According to the official press release, the Cabinet's decision includes the signing of the Host Collaboration Agreement and the necessary guarantees from the involved ministries and departments, along with the approval of grant-in-aid to the Gujarat Government if the bid is accepted.
The release highlighted that the Commonwealth Games will see participation from athletes across 72 nations, along with a significant influx of coaches, technical officials, tourists, and media personnel, which will benefit local businesses and enhance revenue generation.
Furthermore, hosting the CWG is expected to have a profound impact beyond sports, boosting tourism, creating job opportunities, and inspiring countless young athletes.
