India's Athletes Gear Up for 2026 Asian Games with Confidence and Support

Send-Off Ceremony for Indian Contingent

On September 8, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) organized a special send-off event for the athletes representing India at the 2026 Asian Games. This prestigious event will take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. IOA President PT Usha expressed her strong belief in the athletes' capabilities as they prepare for this continental sporting event.

Usha emphasized that the athletes have trained rigorously and are motivated by the unwavering support from their sports federations, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the IOA, and their dedicated support teams. She also acknowledged the encouragement provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I have full confidence in our athletes as they have trained diligently this time. They are backed by their respective associations and the government, which has ensured they have all necessary resources. The IOA is also committed to supporting them, including allowing essential support staff to accompany the athletes. Prime Minister Modi has been a source of motivation for them, both before and after their competitions. This support is a tremendous source of inspiration. The athletes have already gained confidence and motivation, and I trust they will channel that into their performances at the Games,” PT Usha stated.

The ceremony was a gathering of athletes, coaches, support staff, dignitaries, and partners, all united as Team India prepares to make a mark at the Asian Games.

Among the attendees were Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, and other dignitaries, alongside athletes and their coaches.

IOA Executive Council Member Rohit Rajpal shared his optimism regarding India's prospects at the Asian Games, noting that the impressive performances at the Commonwealth Games have bolstered his confidence in the young athletes.

He pointed out the significant potential of these emerging athletes, stating that many are expected to develop further and contribute to India's success in the future.

“After witnessing the performances at the Commonwealth Games, I feel very positive about the future of Indian sports. The dynamics of the Asian Games will differ from those of the Commonwealth Games, but I have high hopes for our athletes. The potential is immense, and as India progresses, we will see many more athletes rise to prominence. I say this with confidence, having closely observed their performances at the Commonwealth Games. These young athletes are on the verge of maturing and will undoubtedly make India proud,” Rajpal remarked.

Building on India's remarkable achievement of securing 107 medals at the 2023 Asian Games, both the IOA and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports are confident that this year's contingent is well-equipped to enhance that legacy and return home with pride.
