Nagoya, Oct 1: The Indian women's squash team concluded their Asian Games journey with a bronze medal after a 2-1 defeat against Hong Kong in the semi-finals at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena on Wednesday.

Anahat Singh faced Chan Sin Yuk and narrowly lost 3-2 (11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-13, 10-12). However, Tanvi Khanna made a remarkable comeback, defeating world number 40 Lee Ka Yi 3-1 (4-11, 13-11, 11-9, 13-11), leveling the tie. Unfortunately, Joshna Chinappa lost the crucial match to Ho Tze Lok 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 11-9), resulting in a bronze medal for the team.

This marks Anahat's second medal at the ongoing games, having previously secured silver in the women's singles event.

It is worth mentioning that Joshna, Tanvi, and Anahat were part of the Indian women's team that also clinched bronze at Hangzhou 2023. Anahat had previously contributed to the bronze medals in both women's and mixed teams at the last edition.

Despite having several match points in the third game, Anahat could not convert them. Tanvi's impressive performance against Lee brought the semi-final to a tie, but Joshna's loss sealed India's bronze medal finish.

This achievement marks India's fourth medal in squash at Aichi-Nagoya. Earlier, both Anahat and Abhay Singh narrowly missed out on gold medals and Olympic squash quotas in their respective singles events on Sunday.

Anahat lost the gold medal match to Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-7), while Abhay was defeated by another Malaysian, Ng Eain Yow, with a score of 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 11-5).

Abhay's silver medal makes him only the second Indian to achieve this in men’s singles at the Games, following Saurav Ghosal, who reached the finals in both Incheon 2014 and Hangzhou 2023 but did not win gold. Additionally, the Indian mixed doubles team of Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar secured a bronze medal on Saturday.

India entered the 2026 Asian Games following a successful campaign at Hangzhou 2023, where the nation earned five medals in squash, including two golds, one silver, and two bronzes.

In Hangzhou, the men's team won gold, and India also triumphed in the mixed doubles event. The country added a silver in men's singles through Saurav Ghosal and bronze medals in both the women's team and mixed team competitions.
