India Secures Spot in Gold Medal Match

In a thrilling semifinal at the Asian Games 2026 held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, the Indian women's hockey team triumphed over South Korea with a score of 2-0, ensuring their place in the gold medal match.

The first half ended without any goals, but India took the lead in the 43rd minute when Ishika successfully converted a penalty corner.

Just four minutes later, in the 47th minute, India extended their lead. Salima Tete delivered a cross into the circle, which deflected off a South Korean defender's stick and found the net.

India maintained their two-goal lead for the rest of the match, securing a 2-0 victory. They will now face China in the final for the gold medal.

On the men's side, India's doubles campaign at the Asian Games concluded without a medal for the first time since 1998, as both pairs were eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Anirudh Chandrasekar and N Balaji fought hard but lost to China's Jiang Fumin and Zhang Tianhui in a nail-biting three-set match, finishing 7-6(4), 6-7(7), 8-10.

Similarly, Yuki Bhambri and Dhakshineswar Suresh were defeated by Chinese Taipei's Ho Chen-jui and Hsu Yu-hsiou with a score of 6-7(5), 3-6.

These quarterfinal losses dashed India's hopes for a men's doubles medal, marking a long wait since their last success in this event back in 1998.
