Indian Women's Cricket Team Visits Temple Ahead of T20I Series
Women in Blue Seek Blessings at Vizag Temple
On Monday, the Indian women's cricket team made a visit to the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple located in Visakhapatnam, prior to their second T20I match in the five-game series against Sri Lanka.
Players including Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Renuka Singh, Shafali Verma, Amarpreet Kaur, Vaishnavi Sharma, Kranti Gowd, and Sri Charani attended the temple, a well-known pilgrimage site in the region. Umpires DS Lakshmi and Brinda Rathi also joined the visit.
Upon their arrival, temple officials provided a traditional welcome. The Assistant Executive Officer, Tirumaleswara Rao, along with Supervising Officer K Venkateswara Rao, greeted the team with customary honors.
The cricketers engaged in prayers to the main deity, took part in special rituals inside the sanctum sanctorum, and also interacted with the sacred Kappasthambham within the temple grounds. Following their darshan, Vedic scholars offered blessings to the players.
Later, the temple authorities honored the players with sacred silk garments and prasadam. The athletes expressed their hopes for ongoing success for the nation and sought divine blessings for future triumphs.
First T20I Recap: India Secures Dominant Win
The Indian women's team is set to face Sri Lanka Women at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on December 22. The Women in Blue commenced their five-match series with a commanding eight-wicket victory over their rivals.
Jemimah Rodrigues was a standout performer in the match, scoring an impressive 69 runs off 44 balls, including 10 fours, while chasing a target of 122 runs. India completed the chase in just 14.4 overs.
Jemimah matched Mithali Raj's record of four T20I scores exceeding 50 against Sri Lanka. She formed a 54-run partnership for the second wicket with Smriti Mandhana and an unbeaten 55-run partnership with captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who finished not out on 15.
Earlier, Sri Lanka Women managed to score 121 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, with Vishmi Gunaratne being the top scorer at 39 runs. Deepti Sharma led the bowling attack for India with impressive figures of 1/20, while Kranti Gaud and Shree Charani each took a wicket.
