According to a statement from the Wrestling Federation of India, the team has achieved an impressive haul of six medals: two gold, three silver, and one bronze, bringing pride to the nation.

With a total of 151 points, the Indian team secured the Champion Trophy, while the USA followed closely with 142 points, and Japan took third place with 113 points.

Gold Medal Highlights

Rachna (43 kg) earned India's first gold medal in her weight class, starting her journey with a decisive win against Canadian wrestler Mariza Toshie Anjos Nasu (8-0). She continued her success by defeating Egyptian Mareim Ahmed (13-3) in the quarterfinals.

In a tense semifinal against Madison M. Healey from the USA, Rachna advanced with a narrow 1-1 victory on criteria. She capped off her performance with a 3-0 win over Chinese wrestler Xin Huang in the final. Rachna is also the reigning Asian Champion in this category, having won gold at the Under-17 Asian Championship in Vietnam earlier this year.

Ashvini Vishnoi (65 kg), the only wrestler from Rajasthan to clinch gold at the World Championship, continued her winning streak after victories at both the Under-17 Asian Championship and the Asian Beach Wrestling Championship. She began her campaign with a fall victory over Algerian Selsabil Rouabah and followed it up with a technical superiority win (11-0) against Hungarian Emese Czegledi. Ashvini dominated her quarterfinal and semifinal matches, ultimately defeating Uzbekistan's Mukhayyo Rakhimjonova 3-0 in the final without conceding a single point throughout the tournament.

Silver and Bronze Medal Performances

Moni (57 kg) reached the final but narrowly lost to Kazakh wrestler Madkhiya Usmanova (5-6), despite having previously defeated her in the Under-17 Asian Championship final. Kajal (73 kg) faced a familiar opponent in Chinese wrestler Wenjin Qiu, repeating their previous final matchup with the same outcome, losing 5-8.

Yashita (61 kg) also secured a silver medal after a strong performance, but fell short in the final against USA's Taina Rose Fernandez (11-0). Komal Verma (49 kg) earned a bronze medal, bouncing back after a quarterfinal loss to USA's Morgan Nicole Turner by defeating Kazakhstan's Saniya Soltangali and UWW wrestler Anhelina Burkina.

Historic Achievement in Greco-Roman

Hardeep made history by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal in the heavyweight (110 kg) Greco-Roman category at the Under-17 World Championship. He opened with a 2-0 win over a Kazakh wrestler and continued his dominance throughout the tournament, culminating in a dramatic final against an Iranian opponent, where he won on criteria with a 3-3 scoreline.

The Indian wrestling team has once again showcased its strength globally, finishing with three gold, two silver, and two bronze medals at the Under-17 World Wrestling Championship in Athens.

A spokesperson from the Wrestling Federation of India expressed pride in the athletes' commitment and courage, highlighting the promising future of wrestling in India.

The championship continues in Athens, with Indian wrestlers set to compete in remaining freestyle bouts. Lacky (110 kg) has advanced to the gold medal match scheduled for tomorrow, while two freestyle wrestlers, Saurabh Yadav (82 kg) and Arjun Ruhil (92 kg), could not travel due to visa issues, marking a significant setback for the team.
