Indian Teams Advance to Stage Two
Both the Indian men's and women's table tennis teams have successfully progressed to the second stage of the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships. They achieved this by finishing at the top of their respective groups during the initial stage on Thursday. The women's team dominated Rwanda with a decisive 3-0 victory, while the men's team also triumphed over Guatemala at the OVO Arena in Wembley.
Women's Team Triumphs Over Rwanda
In their match against Rwanda, Olympian Manika Batra, currently ranked 48th in the world, set a strong precedent by defeating Chantal Hirwa in a one-sided match, winning 3-0 with scores of 11-3, 11-3, and 11-3. Following her, Diya Chitale also secured a 3-0 victory against Elevine Tumukunde, with scores of 11-2, 11-1, and 11-3. Syndrela Das then sealed the win for the women's team.
Men's Team Overcomes Guatemala
In the men's competition, Olympian Sathiyan Gnanasekaran kicked off the match with a 3-0 win against Sergio Carrillo, with scores of 11-3, 11-2, and 11-9. Following him, world number 61 Manav Thakkar easily defeated Ian Morales 3-0, with scores of 11-4, 11-6, and 11-5. Payas Jain concluded the tie with a 3-0 victory over Ricardo Gatica, scoring 11-5, 11-5, and 11-6.
Championship Overview
The championship features 64 teams, organized into groups of four, with 16 teams competing in both men's and women's events. This tournament, which began as a standalone event in 2000, is scheduled to conclude on May 10.
