Suspension of TTFI by Sports Ministry

The Indian Sports Ministry has taken the significant step of suspending the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), citing serious "governance deficiencies and institutional failures." In light of this situation, the ministry has urged the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to form an ad hoc committee to manage table tennis affairs in collaboration with the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).

According to an official statement from Bangararaju VVKK T, Director (Sports), the ministry expressed concern that TTFI has not complied with essential governance principles, including transparency, accountability, and democratic practices expected from a recognized National Sports Federation. The federation's ongoing governance issues have negatively impacted its administration and could harm the interests of athletes and the sport itself.

The order further states that, under the National Sports Development Code of India, 2011, the ministry is suspending TTFI's recognition as the National Sports Federation for table tennis effective immediately. Consequently, the federation will lose access to financial support and other government benefits. In the meantime, the ministry has tasked the IOA with establishing an interim committee to oversee the sport.
