Indian Shooters Shine at Asian Shooting Championship 2025 with Gold Medal Win
Elavenil Valarivan and Arjun Babuta Triumph in Mixed Team Event
Shymkent, Kazakhstan - On August 23, Indian shooters Elavenil Valarivan and Arjun Babuta secured a gold medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event during the Asian Shooting Championship 2025. The competition took place in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on Saturday.
The duo, both Olympians, showcased their skills by defeating the Chinese team of Peng Xinlu and Lu Dingke in the final, winning decisively with a score of 17-11. Earlier in the qualifiers, Valarivan and Babuta achieved a top score of 634.0, as reported by Olympics.com.
Meanwhile, their fellow Indian teammates, Mehuli Ghosh and Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, finished second in the qualifiers with a score of 632.6 but were unable to advance to the gold medal match due to the rule allowing only one team per country in the final.
As a result, Valarivan and Babuta faced the third-placed Chinese team in the gold medal showdown.
Bronze medals were awarded to Japan's Hinata Taichi-Naoki Hanakawa and the Republic of Korea's Eunji Kwon-Hajun Park.
To date, India has amassed a total of 11 medals at the 2025 Asian Shooting Championships, including four gold, one silver, and six bronze, trailing only China in the medal tally.
Previously, Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Elavenil Valarivan claimed titles in the men's skeet and women's 10m air rifle events, respectively. Additionally, the men's 10m air rifle team also secured a gold medal, according to Olympics.com.
Two-time Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker has earned bronze in both the women's 10m air pistol individual and team events and is set to compete in the 25m event as well.
The Indian senior shooting team for this championship consists of 35 members competing across 15 events, while 129 Indian shooters are participating in the junior categories at the Shymkent event.
