Indian Shooters Shine at Asian Games: Kamaljeet and Suruchi Claim Gold in Mixed Team Event

Outstanding Performance by Indian Shooters

Nagoya: In a remarkable display of skill, Indian shooters Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet clinched the gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Asian Games on Friday, bouncing back impressively after earlier disappointments in their individual competitions.

The Indian team, comprising Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Niraj Kumar, secured a silver medal in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions team event, scoring a total of 1762. China took home the gold with a score of 1766, while Korea finished with bronze at 1751.

In the individual finals of the 3P event, Tomar (589) and Niraj (588) qualified in third and fourth positions, respectively, but Rudrankksh was unable to advance as only two shooters from each country can compete in the finals.

Unfortunately, the finals did not favor the Indian shooters, with Aishwary finishing fifth with a score of 327.6 and Niraj ending in eighth place.

China's Yukun Liu, the reigning champion from the Paris Olympics, won the gold with a new games record of 360.5, while fellow countryman Changhong Zhang, a Tokyo Olympics gold medalist, secured silver with 360.2. Kazakhstan's Satpayev Islam took home the bronze.

Kamaljeet and Suruchi achieved a total score of 484.6 in the final, comfortably qualifying for the medal round. They outperformed South Korea's Suhyeon Hong and Gaeun Choo, who finished second with 478.0, showcasing the Indian duo's dominance.

Iran claimed the bronze medal in this event with a score of 415.8.

In the 3P final, Aishwary started strong with 102.9 points in the kneeling position, placing him third, while Niraj struggled, finishing eighth with 97.1 points after 10 shots.

Aishwary continued to perform well in the prone position, scoring 102.4, bringing his total to 205.3 and placing him sixth, while Niraj remained at the bottom with a total of 200.9 after a score of 103.8.

After 25 shots, Aishwary climbed to fifth place with 256.5 points, while Niraj continued to face challenges.

Aishwary's score of 10.7 kept him in contention for a medal, as Japan's Naoya Okada exited in sixth place with a total of 313.8.

Earlier, Kamaljeet and Suruchi secured their spot in the finals by topping the qualification round with an impressive performance.

They began with a score of 196 in the opening series, followed by a strong 195 in the second series, totaling 391 and positioning themselves well for the finals with just 20 shots left. They added another 196 in the third series, bringing their total to 587, which included 29 inner 10s.

This event marked India's last opportunity for a medal in the 10m air pistol category after a series of disappointing results.

Kamaljeet finished ninth in the individual qualification, while Suruchi placed 26th, with neither advancing to the individual finals. India also missed out on medals in both the men's and women's team events.
