Indian Athletes Excel at US Open Pickleball Championships


At the US Open Pickleball Championships, Indian competitors achieved notable success, with Panth Thakkar and Moksha Yerram earning a bronze medal in the 4.5 mixed doubles for the 12–29 age group. Meanwhile, Deepali Agarwal and Dhiren Patel secured a silver medal in the 4.5 mixed doubles for the 40–49 age group. Thakkar and Yerram showcased their skills in the bronze medal match, overcoming J Fuller and H Sung with a score of 15-7. They took control early in the match and maintained their lead, ultimately finishing strong to clinch the medal in a highly competitive field.


The match, held at Franklin Court 41, featured Thakkar and Yerram employing a mix of aggressive net tactics and reliable baseline returns. They minimized unforced errors and capitalized on crucial points, particularly during the middle of the game, where they established a significant advantage.


In the older age category, Agarwal and Patel reached the finals but fell short against W Junior and D Gebara, finishing with a silver after a straight-game loss. The top-seeded duo won with scores of 11-9 and 11-2. The first game was tightly contested, with Agarwal and Patel pushing their opponents to the brink. However, Junior and Gebara managed to pull ahead in the final moments to take the first game.


The second game saw a shift in dynamics, with Junior and Gebara quickly establishing a lead that Agarwal and Patel struggled to overcome, ultimately losing 11-2. Despite the defeat, Agarwal and Patel's journey to the finals demonstrated their consistency and teamwork throughout the tournament.

Arjun also secured the Men's Singles 5.0 title, while he and Aditya teamed up to win the Under-18 Boys Doubles title. Additionally, the young duo of Atharva Sheth and Panth Thakkar earned a silver medal in the Men's Doubles 4.5 category.
