Indian Men's Hockey Team Secures Gold at 2026 Asian Games
Historic Victory for Indian Hockey
The Indian men's hockey team triumphed at the 2026 Asian Games, clinching the gold medal by defeating Malaysia 5-1 in the final match held on Saturday. This victory marks India's consecutive gold medals at the continental event.
With this achievement, India has now accumulated a total of 85 medals at the Asian Games, which includes 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze medals. Additionally, the team has qualified for the 2028 LA Olympics.
A Milestone in Indian Hockey
This win is particularly significant as it is the first time the Indian men's hockey team has successfully defended its gold medal, achieving back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2026. This victory also represents India's fifth gold in men's hockey at the Asian Games, following previous wins in 1966, 1998, 2014, and 2022.
Notably, this is the first occasion where both the Indian men's and women's hockey teams have secured gold medals in the same edition of the Asian Games. With this accomplishment, hockey joins kabaddi and cricket as the only Indian team sports to achieve a double-gold finish at this prestigious event.
