As India ramps up its preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup, set to take place in Belgium and the Netherlands, four players—goalkeeper Mohith HS, defender Yashdeep Siwach, and midfielders Rajinder Singh and Aditya Arjun Lalage—are gearing up for their inaugural World Cup experience. They have expressed strong confidence in the team's readiness for this prestigious tournament.

Lalage Aims to Seize the Moment

Aditya Arjun Lalage, a 23-year-old known for his speed and skill, is stepping into the role of an attacking midfielder. As he prepares for the most significant tournament of his career, Lalage is determined to make the most of this chance. He stated, "Competing in the World Cup has been a dream since childhood, and being selected for the squad feels incredibly special. My current focus is to give my all in every training session and match, contributing to the team's success in any way I can."

"The guidance from senior players and coaches has been invaluable, boosting my confidence. Everyone in the camp is dedicated to working hard, and we share a common goal of giving our best for India," he added.

Rajinder Singh Emphasizes Team Spirit

Fellow midfielder Rajinder Singh, also 23, has quickly made a name for himself with his dynamic presence in the midfield. He praised the strong camaraderie within the team, saying, "What sets this team apart is the bond we share. We maintain constant communication on the field, and that connection extends off the field as well. Everyone is committed to supporting one another, and if someone makes an error, there's always a teammate ready to step in. This unity is one of our greatest strengths."

Siwach Highlights Rigorous Training

Yashdeep Siwach, a 25-year-old defender, spoke about the rigorous nature of their training. He remarked, "The preparation for the World Cup has been incredibly intense. We have focused on every aspect of our game, from fitness and strength to the minutiae of technical and tactical details. Each training camp has pushed us to elevate our standards and bring out the best in each other."

Siwach also mentioned the importance of learning from experienced teammates like captain Harmanpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, and Amit Rohidas. "Having seasoned players around me has been a game-changer. They are always willing to share their insights and guide me through the nuances of the game, which has significantly boosted my confidence. Everyone is aware of their roles and responsibilities, and we are eager for the challenges ahead," he added.

Mohith HS Prepared for the Spotlight

Goalkeeper Mohith HS has showcased remarkable reflexes and composure. Having observed the previous World Cup from the junior national camp in Bengaluru, he is now set to experience the tournament as part of the Indian team, aiming to end a 51-year drought for another World Cup title. Mohith shared, "I vividly remember watching the last World Cup from the junior national camp. I always believed I would one day represent India at a major tournament, though I didn't expect it to happen so soon. Being part of the World Cup squad is an incredibly special feeling."

"From the Junior World Cup to now, I feel I have developed significantly as a goalkeeper, both physically and technically. I strive to learn from coaches and senior players, whether it's about refining my skills or preparing for critical situations like shootouts. We have a great mix of experienced and young players, and everyone understands their role within the team," he concluded.

India's World Cup Match Schedule

India is placed in Pool D for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup and will kick off their campaign against Wales on August 15, followed by matches against England on August 17 and Pakistan on August 19.
