Indian Golf Union Sends Talented Duo to Malaysia

The Indian Golf Union, recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, is dispatching a two-member team to the prestigious Malaysia Ladies Amateur Open, taking place in Selangor from July 28 to 30. The team features promising young golfers Ceerat Kang and Guntas Kaur Sandhu.

Ceerat Kang from Panchkula holds the top position in the IGU Ladies Order of Merit, while Chandigarh's Guntas Kaur Sandhu is ranked second, as per the latest updates.

This year marks the 40th edition of the tournament, hosted at the Glenmarie Golf & Country Club, which boasts a course rating of 72.1 and a slope rating of 122. Approximately 40 amateur golfers from 20 nations will participate in this three-round competition, with individual champions determined after 54 holes, and the team champion decided based on the combined scores of the two players after 36 holes.

At just 19 years old, Ceerat has had a remarkable 2025-26 season, achieving 12 top-10 finishes out of 20 tournaments, including a win at the Greens to Glory Junior Masters Championship last year.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Ceerat stated, “Being ranked No. 1 in the IGU merit list fills me with pride, and I am thrilled to represent India at the Malaysia Ladies Golf Championship. It’s a privilege to wear my country’s colors, and I hope to make India proud.”

Meanwhile, Guntas has also excelled, securing 13 top-10 finishes, including four victories in her 20 starts on the IGU amateur circuit. The 15-year-old has triumphed in the IGU Eastern India Ladies, IGU Southern India Ladies, IGU Maharashtra Ladies, and IGU West Bengal Ladies tournaments during the current season.

Guntas shared her excitement, saying, “I am really looking forward to competing in the 40th Malaysia Ladies Amateur Open. My preparations are going well, and I am focusing on every aspect of my game. I aim to give my best in each round, enjoy the experience, and make the most of this opportunity. I am thankful to the IGU for this chance to represent India.”
