Indian Team Heads to Hong Kong for APGC Junior Championship

The Indian Golf Union (IGU) has dispatched a four-member squad to participate in the esteemed Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Championship, taking place at the Hong Kong Golf Club starting Tuesday. The boys' team features Krish Chawla and Ranveer Mitroo, while the girls' team includes Saanvi Somu and Kashika Mishra. They are joined by non-playing captain Komal Narwar.

This three-round championship is scheduled from May 27 to May 29 and will award titles in various categories including boys' individual, boys' team, girls' individual, girls' team, and mixed team events, all played in strokeplay format. The combined scores of both boys and girls will determine the team titles, while the best scores from each team will contribute to the mixed team standings.

Hong Kong's weather has been predominantly cloudy, with occasional sunshine, creating an ideal atmosphere for golf.

Reflecting on his preparations, Krish Chawla stated, “I have been training diligently for the APGC Junior Championship, focusing on daily practice to enhance my performance and address any mistakes. I am optimistic about the results and view this as a significant learning opportunity for my career.”

Ranveer Mitroo, who is set to compete in the Singapore Junior Championship next, has been refining his swing and short game. He believes that his concentrated efforts will yield positive results at the APGC Junior Championship.

“Participating in the APGC Juniors is a fantastic chance to demonstrate my golfing skills against top competitors from the Asia-Pacific region. It’s an honor to represent my country. The IGU is instrumental in nurturing golfers in India, providing us with opportunities to engage in higher-level competitions and access essential resources for our development,” Ranveer remarked.

Saanvi Somu, making her international debut, has been concentrating on her physical fitness, technical abilities, and mental resilience, hoping to gain invaluable experience from the tournament.

“Taking part in the APGC Juniors is crucial for my growth as a golfer. I had the privilege of playing a practice round at the Hong Kong Golf Club on Monday. The course is both challenging and rewarding, featuring beautiful holes that require strategic thinking. The greens are in superb condition, and the overall setup is highly professional. The IGU is vital in providing young golfers like me with the exposure necessary for our advancement in the sport,” Saanvi expressed.

Kashika Mishra commended the IGU’s initiatives, stating, “The IGU not only enables us to participate in prestigious events like the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific and the APGC Junior Championship but also serves as a support system. It offers us a national platform and helps us showcase our talents internationally. For me, the IGU plays a crucial role in shaping my career and enhancing my game.”
