Celebrating the Bronze Medal Win

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya extended his congratulations to Manush Shah and Diya Chitale after they achieved a bronze medal in mixed doubles table tennis at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Friday.

In a post shared on X, Mandaviya expressed, "Congratulations to our paddlers Manush Shah and Diya Chitale on clinching the Bronze Medal in Mixed Doubles Table Tennis at #AsianGames2026!" He also included the hashtag #Cheer4Bharat along with a celebratory image.

Journey to the Bronze Medal

The Indian pair, ranked eighth, secured their medal by defeating the world No. 4 team from Hong Kong, Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem, with a score of 3-1 in the quarter-finals.

However, they faced a tough challenge in the semi-finals, losing to China's Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha with scores of 8-11, 5-11, 8-11, and 2-11.

Due to the absence of a bronze medal playoff in this event, reaching the semi-finals ensured that Shah and Chitale would finish on the podium.

This bronze medal marks India's second achievement in mixed doubles table tennis at the Asian Games, following the first medal won by Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra in 2018.

The quarter-final victory was particularly noteworthy as Wong and Doo are recognized as multiple-time World Championship medallists.

India's Achievements on Day 6

This medal contributed to India's overall success on Day 6 of the Games. Gulveer Singh earned a silver in the men's 10,000m race, while shooters Kamaljeet and Suruchi Inder Singh secured gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.

Additionally, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Niraj Kumar brought home a silver in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions team event.

In squash, Joshana Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar ensured another medal for India by defeating the Philippines' David Pelino and Jemcya Aribado in the mixed doubles quarter-finals.

Both the men's and women's kabaddi teams advanced to the finals after victories over Thailand and Nepal, respectively, while the women's hockey team triumphed against Japan with a score of 3-1 in their Pool B match.

As of the latest updates, India has amassed a total of 22 medals at the Asian Games, which includes two gold, nine silver, and eleven bronze medals, placing them 12th in the overall standings.
