Dominance of Indian Cricketers at Wisden Almanack 2026
London: The 2026 Wisden Almanack awards saw Indian cricketers excel, claiming seven out of nine accolades. Deepti Sharma and Abhishek Sharma were highlighted as the standout players, with Deepti being honored as the Women's Cricketer of the Year and Abhishek recognized as the T20 Cricketer of the Year.
Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja were also celebrated, making it to Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year due to their impressive performances in the previous year's Test series in England.
The only non-Indian recipients were Australia's Mitchell Starc, awarded Men's Cricketer of the World, and England's Haseeb Hameed, who joined the Five Cricketers of the Year list.
Deepti's accolade came after she topped the wicket-takers list in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, claiming 22 wickets. Her contributions were pivotal in India clinching their first global title, defeating South Africa in the final held in Mumbai. Additionally, she scored 215 runs across nine matches, including three half-centuries.
Abhishek had an impressive 2025 season, amassing 859 runs in 21 matches at an extraordinary strike rate of 193, featuring one century and five fifties.
India's Test captain Gill showcased remarkable form during the English summer, accumulating 754 runs, which was vital for India to achieve a 2-2 draw in the five-match series. Notably, he scored 430 runs in the Edgbaston Test alone.
Pacer Siraj emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, securing 23 wickets. Meanwhile, Pant scored 479 runs before an injury in the fourth Test sidelined him for the fifth match. He managed to score 54 in the second innings at Manchester despite suffering a toe fracture.
