Indian Cricket Team Arrives in England for Test Series Against England
Arrival of the Indian Team
The revamped Indian cricket team, led by newly appointed red-ball captain Shubman Gill, landed in England on Saturday in preparation for their upcoming five-match Test series.
BCCI Shares Arrival Video
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video showcasing players arriving in England, featuring captain Gill, vice-captain Rishabh Pant, opener Sai Sudharsan, and bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj.
Players Reflect on Transition
In a light-hearted moment, Pant humorously remarked, "Garden ki toh yaad aayegi," referencing Rohit Sharma's amusing fielding instructions from the previous year’s home Test series against the same team.
Series Schedule
BCCI tweeted, "Touchdown UK #TeamIndia have arrived for the five-match Test series against England #ENGvIND." The series will take place from June to August 2025, with matches set at various venues including Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord's, The Oval, and Old Trafford.
Transition in the Indian Team
This series marks India's first bilateral Test series following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket. The team is in a phase of transition, with Shubman Gill stepping in as captain.
Historical Context
India has not secured a Test series victory in England since 2007. To gear up for the series, several players had previously arrived to compete for India A in warm-up matches against the England Lions, with the remaining squad members expected to arrive in the UK on Friday.
Current Matches
Currently, India A is engaged in a three-match unofficial Test series against the England Lions. The first match concluded in a draw, while the second unofficial Test is scheduled to commence on Friday, June 6, at the County Ground in Northampton.
Changes in the English Squad
The English team has undergone several changes since their 4-1 Test series loss in India last year, with veteran pacer James Anderson retiring and players like Jonny Bairstow, Ben Foakes, and Ollie Robinson being dropped.
