Strong Performance by Indian Boxers

Jakarta: Indian boxers showcased their prowess at the Asian U-19 and U-23 Championships, with eight athletes reaching the finals in both men's and women's U-23 divisions, while seven others claimed bronze medals after reaching the semifinals.

In the U-23 women's division, five Indian boxers made it to the finals. Nisha (54kg) triumphed over Hyeju Lee from Korea, and Nikita Chand (60kg) secured a victory against Japan's Sarii Kokufu.

Kajal (65kg) also advanced by defeating Gulzina Melsvek of Kyrgyzstan, with referees halting the bouts due to the Indian boxers' clear dominance.

In the higher weight classes, Muskan (75kg) achieved a 5:0 victory against Toirova Oysha from Uzbekistan, while Priyanka (+80kg) won decisively with a 5:0 score against Kazakhstan's Panar Seiitkhankyzy.

On the men's side, three Indian boxers reached the finals in the U-23 category. Vishvanath Suresh (50kg) delivered a strong 5:0 win over his opponent from the Philippines, while Ganga (55kg) narrowly won against Japan with a 3:2 split decision.

Vanshaj (65kg) also impressed with a 4:1 victory over a competitor from Kyrgyzstan, securing his spot in the finals.

Additionally, India earned seven bronze medals from semifinal matches. In the U-23 women's category, Tanu (51kg), Prachi (57kg), Shivani (70kg), and Naina (80kg) all took home bronze medals.

For the U-23 men's category, bronze medals were awarded to Hitesh (70kg), Neeraj (75kg), and Ishan Kataria (+90kg).
