Indian Shuttlers Gear Up for Syed Modi International Tournament

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], November 25: Indian badminton players HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth are looking to regain their competitive edge at the Syed Modi International Tournament 2025, which kicks off in Lucknow on Tuesday.

This prestigious event, classified as a Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 300 tournament, will take place at the Babu Banarasi Das UP Badminton Academy, according to reports from a sports media outlet.

Prannoy has faced challenges this year, failing to advance past the second round in any of his 15 BWF World Tour appearances, with eight of those resulting in first-round exits. Currently ranked 35th globally, he stands as the highest-ranked Indian in the men's singles category after Ayush Shetty, who withdrew from the tournament unexpectedly.

Meanwhile, Kidambi, ranked 42nd in the world and a finalist at the Malaysia Masters Super 500 in May, arrives in Lucknow following three consecutive first-round eliminations. The former world number one has fond memories of this tournament, having won consecutive titles in 2015 and 2016.

Notably, Lakshya Sen, the reigning Australian Open champion, will not be defending his title at the Syed Modi International this year. Other Indian players, including Kiran George, Priyanshu Rajawat, and Tharun Mannepalli, are eager to make their mark in this home event.

With two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu sidelined for the season due to injury, the women's singles draw will feature promising young talents like Unnati Hooda, Anmol Kharb, and 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma, the youngest competitor in the field.

Sindhu was the champion of the Syed Modi International last year.

In women's doubles, Commonwealth Games bronze medalists Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, currently ranked 14th in the world, are the top seeds, having claimed the title last year. Their recent participation in the Australian Open marked their return to competition after a hiatus since July, although they faced a first-round defeat.

In men's doubles, Sai Pratheek and Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy are the top-seeded pair, while Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde hold the second seed in mixed doubles.
