On the fifth day of the Commonwealth Games (CWG), Indian athletes showcased remarkable performances, bringing the nation's medal tally to ten. Gyaneshwari Yadav initiated the medal haul by securing a silver in the women's 53kg weightlifting category, lifting a total of 199kg. Later in the day, Bindyarani Devi added to the tally with a bronze medal in the women's 58kg weightlifting, also lifting 199kg. Sarvesh Kushare met expectations by winning a silver in the high jump event. Ajaya Babu narrowly missed out on gold, settling for silver in the men's 79kg weightlifting. In para athletics, Sharmila Dhankar and Shilpa Shyla ended the wait for medals, with Sharmila winning gold and Shilpa taking bronze in the Women's shot put F57 event. Following a successful Monday (July 27), India is poised to secure additional medals on the sixth day of the competition.

Potential Medal Winners for India

Looking ahead, weightlifter Nirupama Devi Saram is expected to compete in the Women's 63kg final on Tuesday (July 28) at 6:30 PM IST, potentially earning the first medal of the day. Harjinder Kaur is another athlete to watch, as she will participate in the 69kg final at 11:00 PM IST. Indian weightlifters have been the standout performers thus far, and they are anticipated to continue their success. Additionally, Pooja Singh will take part in the women's high jump event at 11:35 PM IST. Para swimmers Karthik Budigina and Ali Iman are also in contention for medals in the Men's 50m Freestyle S13 final.
