Indian Army Athletes Excel at 26th Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea

At the 26th Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, Indian Army athletes showcased their exceptional talent, securing multiple medals and highlighting India's growing prowess in athletics. Naib Subedar Gulveer Singh clinched gold in the 10,000 meters, while fellow athletes also made significant contributions to the medal tally. Outstanding Performances by Indian Army Athletes

Gumi, South Korea - On May 28, Indian Army athletes demonstrated exceptional skill and determination at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships, held in Gumi, South Korea, showcasing the Army's significant contribution to developing sports talent in India.


The official Twitter account of the Army's Directorate General of Public Information shared, "Indian Army Athletes Shine at Asian Athletics Championships. Our athletes delivered remarkable performances at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, Korea, 2025."



Naib Subedar Gulveer Singh achieved a gold medal in the 10,000 meters, clocking an impressive time of 28:38.64. His victory not only secured him the top position but also emphasized India's rising stature in long-distance running on the continental stage.


Following closely was Havildar Sawan Barwal, who finished fourth with a time of 28:50.53. Although he narrowly missed a medal, his performance was commendable and earned him admiration.


Havildar Servin Sebasthiyan contributed to the medal count by winning bronze in the 20 km Race Walk, showcasing the strength and versatility of India's athletics team, particularly from the armed forces.


The X post further stated, "The Indian Army is steadfast in its commitment to fostering and promoting sporting excellence, paving the way for India's success on the global stage."


In addition to Gulveer Singh, Sawan Barwal, and Servin Sebasthiyan, other medalists included Rupal Chaudhary, who secured silver in the women's 400m, and Pooja, who won silver in the women's 1500m. Praveen Chithravel and Tejaswin Shankar also earned silver in the men's triple jump and decathlon, respectively. Yoonus Shah claimed bronze in the men's 1500m, while the team of Santosh Kumar, Rupal, Vishal, and Subha Venkatesan triumphed in the mixed 4x400m relay, winning gold.


India currently ranks third in the medal tally with a total of eight medals, while the People's Republic of China leads with 15 medals, followed by Japan with 14.
