Historic Victory for Indian Archery

Indian archery has once again made headlines on the global stage. Olympian Dhiraj Bommadevara, alongside 17-year-old Kumkum Mohod, achieved a remarkable victory by defeating the Olympic champions from Korea with a score of 5-1 in the recurve mixed team final at the Archery World Cup held in Antalya.

First Gold in Recurve Mixed Since 2022

This victory marks India's first gold medal in the recurve mixed category since 2022. The Indian duo showcased their dominance throughout the tournament, securing victories against Denmark (6-0), the USA (6-2), and Germany (6-2), while allowing only four set points during their entire journey to the final.

A Dynamic Duo

The combination of Dhiraj's seasoned experience and Kumkum's bold shooting style proved to be a winning formula. Kumkum has now clinched back-to-back World Cup gold medals, having previously won the women's team title in Shanghai earlier this season. This achievement underscores the emerging talent in Indian archery, as a new generation of athletes consistently competes with the best in the world. The excitement surrounding the sport is further amplified by the upcoming Archery Premier League in Hyderabad, scheduled for October 8-18, which aims to connect fans with India's archery stars.

Dhiraj Bommadevara's Reflections

"This victory feels particularly special as it is my first time winning a mixed team gold," Dhiraj expressed, reflecting on the significance of this achievement compared to his initial World Cup title in the recurve men's team event at Shanghai 2024. He added, "We focused on our performance rather than our opponents, which was crucial to our success."
