India Secures Victory in 4th T20I Against Sri Lanka

Thiruvananthapuram: In an exciting encounter at the Greenfield International Stadium, India Women emerged victorious against Sri Lanka Women by 30 runs in the fourth T20I. Vaishnavi Sharma and Arundhati Reddy each claimed two wickets, helping to secure the win.

India set a formidable target of 222 runs, thanks to Smriti Mandhana's impressive 80 runs and Shafali Verma's 79 runs, finishing at 221/3 in their allotted overs. Sri Lanka, however, started their chase aggressively, reaching 50 runs in just 3.3 overs, with captain Chamari Athapaththu leading the charge with a top score of 52.

Despite their strong start, Sri Lanka fell short, concluding their innings at 191/6, marking their highest total in women's T20Is.

The Indian bowlers faced challenges, particularly with a wet ball, and their fielding was not up to par. Vaishnavi's bowling figures of 2-24 in four overs stood out, while Arundhati contributed with 2-42. The record batting performance provided India with a crucial cushion, allowing them to maintain their unbeaten streak in the series.

Sri Lanka's chase began with intent, as Hasini Perera hit three boundaries in the first over bowled by Renuka Singh Thakur. Arundhati Reddy, who replaced Kranti Gaud for this match, struggled initially, conceding runs quickly.

The Sri Lankan openers, Hasini and Chamari, continued their aggressive play, reaching their fifty in the fourth over. India's first breakthrough came when Arundhati dismissed Perera for 33 runs, which briefly halted Sri Lanka's momentum.

However, Chamari and Imesha Dulani kept the innings steady with smart batting. At the halfway mark, Sri Lanka was ahead of India's score at the same point.

A missed stumping opportunity for Imesha and a dropped catch by Deepti Sharma did not cost India dearly, as Chamari eventually fell for 52 runs. Despite some fielding errors, India regained control of the match.

Match Summary:

India 221/2 in 20 overs (Smriti Mandhana 80, Shafali Verma 79, Richa Ghosh 40 not out; Malsha Shehani 1-32, Nimasha Madushani 1-40) defeated Sri Lanka 191/6 in 20 overs (Chamari Athapaththu 52, Hasini Perera 33; Vaishnavi Sharma 2-24, Arundhati Reddy 2-42) by 30 runs.
