India Takes the Lead in Women's Cricket Semifinal

Nishinn: In a thrilling encounter at Korogi Sports Park on Sunday, India won the toss and chose to bat first against Bangladesh in the women's cricket semifinal of the Asian Games.

The Indian lineup remained the same as in their quarterfinal match, while this marks Bangladesh's first appearance in the tournament.

Harmanpreet Kaur's squad, known as the Women in Blue, convincingly defeated the host nation Japan in the quarterfinals, securing their place in the semifinals for the second consecutive tournament.

As defending champions, India is favored to retain their title, having triumphed over Sri Lanka in the final of the 2023 Asian Games, mirroring the semifinal matchups from the last edition.

On the other hand, Bangladesh enters the semifinal without prior match experience in Nisshin, as their quarterfinal against China was canceled due to rain, allowing them to advance based on their higher ranking.

Historically, Bangladesh has only managed to defeat India three times in their 25 encounters.

The Women in Blue recently celebrated their eighth Asia Cup victory, while Bangladesh faced defeat against India in the Asia Cup semifinal held in Dubai.
