India Secures Hard-Fought Win Against New Zealand

Ipoh [Malaysia], November 27: The Indian Men's Hockey Team showcased an impressive performance, edging out New Zealand 3-2 in a closely contested match at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Stadium on Thursday. The goals for India came from Amit Rohidas (4'), Sanjay (32'), and Selvam Karthi (54'), while George Baker netted both goals for New Zealand (42', 48').


New Zealand started strong, applying pressure in the opening minutes, but India's defense held firm, denying them any scoring chances. The first significant opportunity for India arose from a well-executed play that led to a Penalty Corner, which Amit Rohidas converted with a powerful drag-flick, giving India a 1-0 lead. Despite a close-range attempt by Abhishek being saved by the New Zealand goalkeeper, India finished the first quarter ahead.


In the second quarter, New Zealand sought to equalize, moving the ball effectively. They earned a Penalty Corner but were thwarted by India's resolute defense, allowing India to maintain their narrow lead at halftime, as reported by Hockey India.


India came out strong in the second half, quickly extending their lead when Captain Sanjay scored from a Penalty Corner (32'). As the fourth quarter began, New Zealand equalized at 2-2 through another Penalty Corner, with Baker scoring again (48'). However, India quickly regained the lead when Selvam Karthi finished off a pass from Abhishek (54'). Although India had a chance to secure the win with a penalty stroke, they missed the opportunity. Nevertheless, India held on in the closing moments to clinch a well-deserved 3-2 victory.
