India Shines at Commonwealth Fencing Championship with Multiple Medals

Lagos (Nigeria) Aug 12: The Indian fencing team showcased exceptional skill on the third day of the Commonwealth Fencing Championship, achieving a remarkable haul of three gold medals, one silver, and one bronze in the senior individual categories.
India's dominance was evident in the senior women's foil, senior men's épée, and senior men's sabre events, elevating the nation's total medal tally to an impressive 29, which includes eight golds, seven silvers, and 14 bronzes.
In the senior women's foil, India secured a gold-silver finish, with Kanaglakshmi taking gold after a strategic and skillful performance, while her teammate Joys Ashitha earned silver, leaving England's Georgia Green and Emily Goodchild to settle for bronze.
The success continued in the senior men's épée, where Rajendran Shanthimol Sherjin delivered a powerful performance to clinch India's second gold of the day, defeating South Africa’s Kruger Pieter, who took silver. Wales' Burkhardt Marc and South Africa's Losevsky Sergey shared the bronze medals.
In the senior men's sabre, Singh Karan Singh secured the third gold for India with a thrilling final against Australia's Shim Yoongi, who earned silver. Teammate Kumaresan Padma Gisho Nidhi contributed to the medal tally by winning bronze alongside Nigeria's Akinyosoye Oluwafolayemi.
As the championship nears its conclusion, the Indian team is now focused on the final events in foil, épée, and sabre. With a total of 29 medals already achieved, Team India is determined to sustain its momentum and conclude the championship on a triumphant note in Lagos.
