Historic Achievements in Shooting and Relay

Despite facing heavy rain and cold weather, Neeru Dhanda made history by securing India's inaugural women's trap gold medal at the Asian Games. Later in the day, the women's 4x400m relay team added another gold, pushing India's total medal count past 50 and placing the nation in the top 10 of the overall standings.

Dhanda's performance was remarkable, as she overcame the challenging weather to break the Asian record with a score of 28 in the finals, marking India's first individual shooting gold in these Games.

In the evening, the relay team, consisting of Kiran, Prachi Choudhary, M R Poovamma, and Vithya Ramraj, clinched gold with a time of 3:29.69 seconds. Notably, Poovamma has previously won gold medals in the 2014 and 2018 Asian Games, while Ramraj recently set a new national record in the 400m hurdles.

India's Medal Tally and Boxing Success

With these victories, India's overall medal tally now stands at 52, including 6 gold, 21 silver, and 25 bronze medals. The day also saw a breakthrough in boxing, with Ankush Panghal reaching the finals in the 80kg category, marking the first time in eight years that India has a male boxing finalist.

The track and field events yielded mixed results, but the women's relay gold provided a high note. Nineteen-year-old high jumper Pooja Singh secured a bronze with a jump of 1.84m, while Gulveer Singh added a bronze in the 5000m, completing a treble after winning silver in both the 10,000m and 1500m races.
