Selection Trials Announced for Elite Cyclists

The Cycling Federation of India (CFI) has revealed plans for selection trials aimed at Indian men's elite cyclists. This initiative is designed to form two teams, 'India A' and 'India B', for the upcoming Pune Grand Tour, which is set to be India's inaugural Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) 2.2 category Road Race, scheduled for January 19-23, 2026.

These trials will take place from December 2-6 in Sambalpur, Odisha, as part of the National Road Cycling Championship. Athletes who are selected will undergo further assessment during a National Road Race in Pune on December 28, 2025, according to a statement from CFI.

Having two teams, 'India A' and 'India B', will create an extensive platform for both emerging and experienced cyclists to showcase their skills on both national and international levels.

The Pune Grand Tour 2026, backed by Bajaj, aims to establish a permanent spot for Pune and India in the UCI's global calendar. This inaugural event is expected to draw elite international cyclists, promising intense competition and high-caliber sporting action. The Tour will consist of four stages covering 437 kilometers, traversing the picturesque landscapes of the Pune district, making it one of the most anticipated cycling events in India.

Commenting on the selection trials, Maninder Pal Singh, General Secretary of the Cycling Federation of India, stated, “The National Championship-cum-selection trial is vital for assembling our best teams for the Pune Grand Tour 2026. The introduction of two teams, India A and India B, underscores our commitment to developing a wider talent pool and enhancing the quality of Indian cycling.”
