India is set to launch its Commonwealth Games journey in Glasgow on Thursday, featuring a robust team of 124 athletes eager to excel in a significantly streamlined competition format.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will unfold across four different venues. The Indian team's campaign will kick off with two matches in bowls, marking their first engagements before the official opening ceremony later in the day.

Disciplines and Participation

Indian athletes will participate in eight different sports, which include athletics, boxing, weightlifting, judo, artistic gymnastics, track cycling, bowls, and swimming.

On the other hand, para-athletes from India will compete in five categories: para-athletics, 3x3 wheelchair basketball, para-powerlifting, para-swimming, and para-track cycling.

Top Medal Contenders

The highlight of the athletics events is scheduled from July 27 to August 1 at Scotstoun Stadium.

Neeraj Chopra, a former Olympic and world champion, will spearhead India's efforts in track and field, with the men's javelin throw final set for August 1. Chopra aims to reclaim the Commonwealth title after being unable to defend it at Birmingham 2022 due to an injury. Weightlifting competitions will occur from July 26 to 30, with Mirabai Chanu, a two-time Commonwealth champion and Olympic medalist, being a key figure in India's quest for medals in this sport.
