New Delhi, May 16: Aryaveer Dewan is set to captain India's squad at the Asian Junior Individual Squash Championships, taking place in Panzhihua, China, from May 20 to 24. The team aims to build on its remarkable success from the previous edition.
Having clinched the boys’ U-17 title last year, Dewan steps up to the U-19 category this season, entering the tournament as the third seed. He will lead a robust contingent of 32 Indian players competing across various age groups from U-11 to U-19.
In the last championships, India excelled, securing seven medals: two gold, two silver, and three bronze. With numerous seeded players this year, the Indian team is optimistic about enhancing that record in China.
In the boys’ divisions, India has promising medal prospects in multiple age categories. In the U-13 group, both Abhyuday Arora and Amarya Bajaj are seeded 3/4, while Shresht Iyer holds the second seed in the U-15 category.
Alongside Dewan in the U-19 boys’ category are Gurveer Singh, Yusha Nafees, and Purav Rambhia.
The girls’ team also boasts several talented players. Divyanshi Jain is the second seed in the U-13 category, and Shanaya Parasrampuria is seeded 3/4 in the same age group.
Aadya Budhia will represent India in the U-15 girls’ section as a 3/4 seed, while Anika Dubey enters the U-17 draw with the same seeding.
The U-19 girls’ team will feature Unnati Tripathi, Eesha Shrivastava, Akanksha Gupta, and Vyomika Khandelwal.
Supporting the Indian team will be officials Mekhala Srivastava, Surbhi Misra, Avinash Bhavnani, and Saatvik Joshi during this prestigious continental event.
With a blend of seasoned junior internationals and emerging talent, India aims to leave a significant mark at one of Asia's premier junior squash competitions and further its development in the sport at the continental level.
