India Penalized for Slow Over-Rate in ODI Against South Africa
India Faces Fine for Over-Rate Violation
Dubai: The Indian cricket team has been fined 10% of their match fee due to a slow over-rate during the second ODI against South Africa held in Raipur on Monday.
This match resulted in a loss for India, allowing South Africa to level the three-match series at 1-1, following India's earlier victory in Visakhapatnam.
The penalty was enforced by Richie Richardson from the Elite Panel of Match Referees after it was determined that KL Rahul's team fell two overs short of the required target, even after accounting for time allowances.
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate violations, teams are fined 5% of their match fees for each over not bowled within the designated time.
Rahul accepted the charge and the associated penalty, negating the need for a formal hearing.
The on-field umpires, including Rod Tucker and Rohan Pandit, along with third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal, were responsible for levying the charge.
