Preparations Intensify for T20 World Cup

New Delhi: With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 just around the corner, the BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is convening at its Mumbai office this Saturday to finalize the Indian squad for this prestigious tournament.

In addition to the World Cup squad, the committee will also unveil the team for the upcoming white-ball series against New Zealand, which includes three ODIs and five T20Is, set to take place next month.

Currently, Team India is engaged in a five-match T20I series against South Africa, with the concluding match scheduled for Friday in Ahmedabad.

The BCCI announced on Friday, "The Senior Men’s Selection Committee will convene at the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai on Saturday to select the squad for the T20I series against New Zealand and the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. A press conference will follow, featuring captain Suryakumar Yadav and selection committee chairperson Ajit Agarkar."

Before the World Cup kicks off in February, India will host New Zealand for a white-ball series from January 11 to 31, comprising three ODIs and five T20Is.

The 10th edition of the T20 World Cup will see 20 teams competing over 29 days of thrilling cricket at eight venues across India and Sri Lanka, starting on February 7.

As defending champions, India finds itself in Group A alongside the USA, Namibia, the Netherlands, and former champions Pakistan.

Co-hosting the tournament with Sri Lanka, India will play its group matches at four venues: Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, and Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India will kick off its campaign against the USA in Mumbai, aiming to become the first team to successfully defend the Men’s T20 World Cup title.

India, a two-time World T20 champion, clinched the inaugural title in 2007 in South Africa.
