India's Dominance in the Final T20 Match

In a thrilling conclusion to the five-match series, India triumphed over Sri Lanka by 15 runs in the final women's T20 international held on Tuesday. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur's resilient half-century, combined with a stellar bowling performance, led India to a clean sweep, finishing the series 5-0. This marks India's first 5-0 victory in a bilateral series on home soil and the third overall, while Sri Lanka faced this margin of defeat for the first time.

Chasing a target of 176 runs, Sri Lanka managed to score only 160 runs for the loss of seven wickets, despite strong contributions from Hasini Perera (65 runs off 42 balls) and Imesha Dulani (50 runs off 39 balls), who shared a 79-run partnership for the second wicket. Indian bowlers Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, Sneha Rana, Vaishnavi Sharma, Shree Charani, and Amanjot Kaur each took one wicket.

Harmanpreet played a pivotal role, scoring 68 runs from 43 balls, including nine fours and one six, and forming a crucial 61-run partnership with Amanjot Kaur (21 runs) for the sixth wicket, propelling India to a competitive total of 175 runs.

Arundhati Reddy also contributed with a quickfire 27 runs off 11 balls, hitting four fours and one six. Sri Lanka's bowling attack saw Kavisha Dilhari, captain Chamari Athapaththu, and Rashmika Sewandi each claiming two wickets.

Sri Lanka's chase began poorly as they lost their captain Chamari for just 2 runs in the second over, caught by Deepti Sharma off Arundhati's bowling. Hasini and Imesha managed to stabilize the innings, reaching 48 runs for one wicket during the powerplay. Imesha showcased her batting prowess, hitting consecutive boundaries off Deepti and Arundhati.

As the innings progressed, Hasini completed her half-century in just 38 balls, but the Indian bowlers struck back, with Amanjot taking a crucial wicket of Imesha. Sri Lanka reached their century in the 14th over but lost wickets in quick succession, including Nilakshika Silva and Kavisha Dilhari, which dashed their hopes of victory.

With 34 runs needed in the final two overs, Sri Lanka faced an uphill battle. Earlier, after winning the toss, Chamari opted to bowl first, leading to India's early loss of Shefali Verma (5 runs) in the second over. Despite a shaky start, Harmanpreet and her team managed to recover, with Harmanpreet reaching her half-century and guiding India to a respectable score.

In the end, Sri Lanka's chase fell short, marking a significant achievement for the Indian women's cricket team.
