On Wednesday, India celebrated winning two bronze medals at the Asia Cup Stage I archery tournament held in Bangkok, with both the women's recurve and men's compound teams showcasing impressive performances.
Women's Recurve Team Triumphs
As reported by Olympics.com, the Indian women's recurve team, consisting of Ruma Biswas, Kirti, and Ridhi, delivered a stellar performance, defeating Malaysia 5-1 in the bronze medal match at the SAT Football Stadium. They had previously secured third place in the qualification round with a total score of 1915, spearheaded by Ruma's individual score of 650. The team began their journey with a 6-2 victory over Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals but faced a setback against China in the semi-finals, losing 5-1 before bouncing back to clinch the bronze.
Men's Compound Team Secures Bronze
In the men's compound event, the team comprising Rajat Chauhan, Uday Kamboj, and Rishabh Yadav narrowly defeated Bhutan with a score of 234-232 in a tightly contested bronze medal match. Earlier, they had triumphed over Chinese Taipei with a score of 238-228 in the quarter-finals but were edged out by Vietnam in the semi-finals, losing 234-233. The Indian men's compound team dominated the qualification round, finishing first with a total score of 2126, led by Rajat Chauhan's impressive 712, followed closely by Rishabh Yadav (708) and Uday Kamboj (706).
Promising Medal Prospects Ahead
As the competition nears its conclusion, India's prospects for additional medals remain bright. The country has already secured spots in the gold medal matches for both the women's compound and men's recurve teams, set to compete against Kazakhstan on Friday.
Upcoming Individual and Mixed Team Events
The mixed team events are scheduled for Thursday, with individual finals also taking place on Friday. Notably, Tejal Rajendra Salve will vie for a bronze medal in the women's compound category, while Prathamesh Jawkar and Uday Kamboj will compete in an all-Indian final for the men's compound. Rajat Chauhan has the opportunity to enhance India's medal tally if he wins his bronze match. Additionally, Ridhi Phor will participate in the women's recurve bronze medal match, although India will not have representation in the men's recurve individual medal rounds.
India's contingent at the continental event consisted of 16 archers, evenly split between eight men and eight women, competing in both recurve and compound disciplines.
