India Aims for Gold at World Boxing Cup 2025 in Kazakhstan

The Indian boxing contingent is poised to secure at least eight gold medals at the World Boxing Cup 2025 in Kazakhstan. With several boxers reaching the finals, including both men and women, this event marks a significant milestone for Indian boxing. India's Boxing Team Targets Gold Medals

Astana [Kazakhstan], July 5: The Indian boxing team is set to compete for a minimum of eight gold medals on the final day of the World Boxing Cup in Kazakhstan 2025. This follows the successful advancement of four women and three men boxers, including Nupur (80+kg), to the finals in their respective weight classes on Saturday.


Meenakshi (women's 48kg), Sakshi (women's 54kg), Pooja Rani (women's 80kg), and Jaismine (women's 57kg) along with Hitesh Gulia (men's 70kg), Jugnoo (men's 85kg), and Abhinash Jamwal (men's 65kg) all secured impressive victories, positioning India for its best performance ever at the World Boxing Cup.


Sanju (women's 60kg), Nikhil Dubey (men's 75kg), and Narender (men's 90+ kg) earned bronze medals after their semi-final losses, contributing to India's total medal count of 11. Earlier this year, India had achieved six medals during the first leg of the World Boxing Cup held in Brazil, where only male boxers participated.


This event marks the inaugural opportunity for female boxers to showcase their talents on the World Boxing Cup platform, and they have certainly made the most of it.


Meenakshi kicked off the day for India with a commanding 5:0 victory over Turkey's Nurselen Yalgettekin in the 48kg semi-final. Following her, Sakshi showcased her skills by consistently landing punches against Uzbekistan's Feruza Kazakova, also winning by 5:0 in the 54kg category.


Olympian Pooja Rani faced a late challenge from Turkey's Elif Guneri in the 80kg category but managed to secure a spot in the final with a close 3:2 decision. Jaismine rounded out the lineup with a unanimous decision win against Kazakhstan's Aidana Zabynbekova.


Hitesh Gulia, who previously won gold in Brazil, initially struggled against France's Makan Traore but rallied in the second round, ultimately winning decisively in the final round to reach the finals.


Jugnoo added to the excitement for the Indian team with a dominant 5:0 victory over England's Teagn Scott, while Abhinash Jamwal followed suit with a 5:0 win against local favorite Yertugan Zeinullinov.
