Community Mental Health Affiliates Inc. Launches Pickleball Tournament

Community Mental Health Affiliates Inc. (CMHA) is gearing up for its first-ever pickleball tournament in Bristol, merging sports with a vital mission to enhance mental health services. Scheduled for May 16 at Seymour Park, the organizers aim to establish this event as an annual tradition.

Amy Ogle, the development and community engagement manager at CMHA, emphasized that the tournament is designed to be inclusive and raise awareness. She invited everyone to participate, stating, “Join us on the courts while helping strengthen access to mental health and recovery services across our communities.” Ogle reassured that players of all skill levels are welcome, whether they are newcomers or experienced players, highlighting that the event focuses on movement, connection, and impact.

The tournament will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring sessions categorized by skill level to encourage participation from various experience groups. Ogle noted that the event aims to foster a positive and inviting atmosphere, promising a fun-filled day of pickleball.

All proceeds from the tournament will support CMHA’s mission to promote recovery, resilience, and wellness through accessible, community-based mental health and substance use services. The growing popularity of pickleball, attributed to its smaller court size and ease of play, makes it an excellent platform for such initiatives.

Founded in 1975, CMHA has over fifty years of experience in behavioral healthcare throughout Connecticut, providing integrated services for children, families, and adults, and supporting thousands each year through its programs. This initiative underscores how sports, especially pickleball, can serve as a means to enhance community engagement while tackling significant social issues like mental health.
