T20 World Cup 2024: Inzamam Ul Haq Questions India's Ball Reversing Tactics in T20 World Cup

While the biggest success story of the T20 World Cup 2024 is Afghanistan cricket, the biggest talking point for all the wrong reasons is the Pakistan cricket team. From the team's shambolic performance on the field to former Pakistan cricketers, many of them disgruntled if I may add, going on tirade against their own players, and frequently targeting the Indian team as well.

Joining the list, surprisingly, is one of the less sane minds in Pakistan cricket, former chief selector and one of the best batsmen of his era, Inzamam ul Haq. The former Pakistan skipper, talking about India's win over Australia in their final Super 8 Group 1 match, raised the alarm over Arshdeep Singh managing to reverse the ball in the 15th over and further added that umpires should keep their eyes open for the spot. These things.

“The ball was reversing when Arshdeep Singh was bowling the 15th over. Is it too early (for a reverse swing) with a new ball? This means the ball was ready to reverse swing by the 12th or 13th over, the umpires should keep their eyes open (to spot) these things,” Inzamam said during a talk show. During the talk show, Inzamam's former teammate Salim Malik was also on the panel and he also said that when it comes to certain teams, eyes are closed.

Inzamam added that there would have been a lot of noise if a Pakistani bowler had managed to reverse the ball so early. “If it was the Pakistani bowlers (reverse-swinging the ball) it would have been a bigger issue (making noise). We know reverse swing very well and if Arshdeep can come in the 15th over and start reversing the ball, it means that some serious work has been done before this.

“Because for the reverse swing… see Bumrah can do it because of his action; But for some bowlers - their action and their speed, the ball has to be in that perfect position and well prepared (to reverse). It could be that the wicket is hard and rough, that could be the reason (the ball is rough on one side), but these things have to be taken care of.”
