ICC Champions Trophy 2025: A Record-Breaking Spectacle in Cricket History
Unprecedented Global Viewership for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, hosted in Pakistan and the UAE from February 19 to March 9, has set a new benchmark for viewership, surpassing all previous editions. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that the tournament achieved an astounding 368 billion viewing minutes globally, marking a 19% increase from the 2017 event held in England and Wales.
This edition has become the most-watched ICC Men’s Champions Trophy in history, averaging 308 million viewing minutes per over, a record for any ICC event.
The final match in Dubai, where India triumphed over New Zealand on March 9, garnered 65.3 billion live viewing minutes, making it the most viewed Champions Trophy match ever, exceeding the previous record by 52.1%.
In terms of live watch time, this thrilling finale ranks third among the most-watched ICC matches globally. In India, it stands as the third most viewed ICC match, only behind the semi-final between India and New Zealand at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and the final of that tournament featuring India and Australia.
Australia also witnessed a significant increase in viewership, with overall viewing hours rising by 65% compared to 2017. The introduction of a Hindi language feed contributed to Amazon Prime Video achieving the highest viewership for any ICC event streamed exclusively on its platform.
Despite Pakistan's failure to secure back-to-back titles, the viewing hours for the 2025 tournament in the country increased by 24% compared to their victorious campaign in 2017.
Jay Shah, ICC Chairman, expressed delight over the record-breaking global viewership, emphasizing the growing popularity of cricket and the importance of partnerships. He acknowledged the innovative efforts of the JioStar network in India, which provided live coverage in nine languages across 29 unique broadcast feeds, significantly enhancing audience engagement.
Shah also noted the impressive growth in viewership in markets like Australia and the United States, where platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Willow TV saw notable increases despite challenging broadcast times. These achievements reflect the expanding reach of cricket and the enthusiasm of fans worldwide.
