New Delhi, April 7: The senior women's hockey team from India is gearing up for a tour to Argentina, where they will compete in a series of four matches at CeNARD in Buenos Aires from April 13 to 17.

Competitive Matches Ahead

This series is expected to be a challenging affair, as India faces strong South American rivals on their home ground. The matches are scheduled for April 13, 14, 16, and 17.

Preparation for Major Events

This tour is crucial for India's preparation for the upcoming FIH Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands in 2026, as well as the Asian Games.

In recent years, India and Argentina have had competitive matches, including a thrilling 2-2 draw that was decided by a shootout during the FIH Pro League 2024–25 last June. This tour will provide essential match practice against high-caliber international teams, aligning perfectly with Hockey India's strategic plans to build momentum for the World Cup and Asian Games later this year.

Focus on Team Dynamics

The series will not only serve as preparation but also allow the team to experiment with various combinations and strategies as they approach a pivotal time in their schedule.

Indian chief coach Sjoerd Marijne commented on the tour, stating, “We are taking a squad of 24 players to Argentina, which is a strategic decision. This tour aims to give more players the opportunity to showcase their skills at the highest level. Argentina is among the top teams globally, and this environment will provide insights into each player's capabilities. We want to identify who rises to the occasion when it counts.”

He further emphasized, “To secure a spot in this team, players must demonstrate that they are team players first. While individual talent is significant, the ability to connect with the team and collaborate is essential for making the squad.”
