Bhopal, May 20: The Indian U18 women's hockey squad showcased an impressive performance, defeating Australia 4-1 in the concluding match of their series at the Udhav Das Mehta (Bhai Ji) Central SAI Centre on Wednesday.

Australia initially took the lead in the first quarter with a goal from Aurora Kovacevich (8’). However, India quickly equalized with a goal from captain Sweety Kujur (13’) before the first quarter concluded.

Building on their momentum, India took the lead in the second quarter when Diya (25’) scored, giving them a 2-1 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, India maintained their dominance, with Priyanka Minz (44’) extending the lead in the third quarter. Nausheen Naz (50’) added another goal in the final quarter, sealing a convincing victory for the home team.

This win marked a strong conclusion for the Indian team in a challenging series, setting them up well for the upcoming U18 Asia Cup in Japan later this month.

Despite the loss in the final match, Australia won the four-match series 3-1, which was part of their exposure tour.

India had previously lost the series opener narrowly, 3-4, and faced a 1-4 defeat in the second match. In the second match, Diya (11’) had given India an early lead, but Australia made a strong comeback with goals from Anneliese Cullen (26’), Giselle Thompson (31’), Aurora Kovacevich (36’), and Stella Bartholomeusz (48’), securing their second consecutive victory.

In the third match, India fought hard but fell short again. Australia took an early lead with a goal from Anneliese Cullen (5’), but India equalized through Sandeepa Kumari (15’). However, Australia regained the lead with a goal from Stella Bartholomeusz (17’), and India could not find another equalizer.
