This event will feature competitions for men aged 40 and above and women aged 35 and above, marking a significant milestone in Indian hockey. Former Indian Women’s Hockey Team captain Asunta Lakra expressed her excitement about the tournament, emphasizing its importance in celebrating the legacy and passion for the sport. Players interested in participating must register through their State Member Units. The competition will follow a league-cum-knockout format, promising an exciting experience for all involved.
 

Hockey India Announces Inaugural Masters Cup

New Delhi, May 24: Hockey India (HI) has revealed the details for the inaugural Hockey India Masters Cup 2025, which will feature both men's and women's competitions.


This groundbreaking tournament is set to take place in Chennai, hosted by the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu, from June 18 to June 27.


Signifying a significant milestone in Indian hockey, this event aims to provide a specialized platform for seasoned players. The Masters Cup will celebrate the spirit of the game, with competitions for men aged 40 and above and women aged 35 and above.


The participating teams for both categories will be announced soon. Players interested in joining the tournament must register through their respective State Member Units.


The competition format will consist of a league-cum-knockout structure, with pools determined by the total number of teams participating.


Asunta Lakra, the former captain of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team, shared her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Participating in the first-ever Hockey India Masters Cup is an emotional and thrilling experience for me. Hockey has been a significant part of my life, and returning to the field with fellow veterans who have similar experiences is incredibly special.”


She further emphasized, “This tournament transcends mere competition; it embodies legacy, passion, and the enduring connection we all share with the sport. I commend Hockey India for establishing this platform that allows former players to relive the joy of hockey and inspire future generations. I am excited to lace up my boots again, not just for the love of the game but for all it has given us throughout the years.”
