Historic Victory: Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team Celebrated by BCCI
Celebration of Triumph in Mumbai
Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) honored the Indian blind women’s cricket team after their remarkable success in the first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind.
On December 19, the team was warmly welcomed at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. Raghuram Bhat, the Honorary Treasurer, greeted the players and expressed congratulations on behalf of the board for their groundbreaking achievement.
India showcased an impressive performance throughout the tournament, finishing unbeaten and securing the championship with a decisive seven-wicket victory against Nepal in the final match. The Indian team successfully chased down a target of 115 runs in just 12.1 overs.
The BCCI commended captain Deepika TC, her teammates, and the support staff for their outstanding display on the international stage. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also addressed the team via video call, promising ongoing support from the board, including playing kits and travel assistance for upcoming tours.
This championship win is celebrated as a pivotal moment and a significant milestone in the history of Indian cricket.
In a statement, BCCI President Mithun Manhas remarked, “This is a historic moment for the blind women’s cricket team and a source of pride for the entire nation. Continue to reach for greater heights.”
Secretary Saikia further noted, “Women’s cricket in India is experiencing a remarkable phase, with Harmanpreet and her team winning the ICC Women’s World Cup and Deepika TC leading the blind women’s team to victory in the inaugural T20 World Cup. I congratulate Deepika and her team for their exceptional performance.”
BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla also praised the team, stating, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Deepika and her team for this historic achievement. This is a proud moment for our nation and will inspire countless individuals across the country.”
Treasurer Raghuram Bhat expressed his pride in welcoming the team to the BCCI headquarters, stating, “It was a proud moment for me to congratulate the entire team. Their mental strength and resilience have made the nation proud, and I once again commend the team and support staff for their contributions to our glory.”
Honorary Joint Secretary Prabhtej Singh Bhatia also recognized the achievement, saying, “Women’s cricket in 2025 has achieved phenomenal results, and I congratulate the blind women’s cricket team for their monumental victory in the tournament.”
